Tanabata Event "Tanabata Wishes" Now Underway

NIGICHA is hosting the Tanabata event "Tanabata Wishes" from Sunday, June 7, 2026, through Friday, August 7, 2026.

Tanabata is a Japanese star festival celebrating the one night each year when Orihime (the Weaver Star) and Hikoboshi (the Cowherd Star) are said to cross the Milky Way and meet. In Japan, there is a tradition of writing wishes on colorful paper strips called tanzaku, tying them to bamboo, and offering prayers to the stars.

At NIGICHA, we have prepared a special experience where you can enjoy this beautiful Japanese seasonal tradition alongside a matcha latte.

During the event period, customers who order a Matcha Latte Special will receive a tanzaku strip and a pen. Feel free to write your wish in any language — not just Japanese. Tie your completed tanzaku to the black bamboo outside NIGICHA and take home a Tanabata memory to treasure.

As part of our Tanabata decorations, we have introduced bamboo lanterns at our terrace seating and store entrance. These bamboo lanterns are created by CHIKAKEN, led by Kenji Sanjo, who successfully summited Mount Everest in May 2026.

CHIKAKEN is a bamboo lantern production group based in Kumamoto, lighting bamboo lanterns across Japan and continuing to craft unique landscapes and stories rooted in the soul of each place. By piercing holes into bamboo and filling them with light, they create soft, warm glows and a distinctly Japanese atmosphere in every space they touch.

At NIGICHA's terrace, the natural texture of bamboo and gentle light have come together, creating a quiet, warm moment in time.

NIGICHA strives to be a place where you can experience not only onigiri and matcha, but also the seasonal events and cultural traditions of Japan.

May your wishes reach the stars.
We hope you enjoy a beautiful Tanabata moment at NIGICHA.
